Intoxicated Woman in Pattaya Passes Out on Train Tracks and Gets Her Legs Crushed

Pattaya —

A Thai woman, reported to be heavily intoxicated, blacked out on a railway track in Pattaya and tragically got both of her legs crushed by a train, Sawang Boriboon rescue workers reported.

The female victim, Ms. Krongthong Phongwiset, 43, was described by the rescuers as emitting a strong smell of alcohol when she was found by the railway track in the Nongprue sub-district of Chonburi’s Banglamung district, after losing both of her legs to the passing train.

Sawang Boriboon rescuers told The Pattaya News that they received a report of the accident around 1:00 AM on Thursday, July 27th. They promptly rushed to the scene at the railroad tracks along with medical personnel.

Krongthong, dressed in a cream-colored sleeveless shirt and black trousers, was crying out in pain and distress. The rescuers provided necessary first aid to her severed legs before rushing her to the nearest local hospital.

In an interview with the train driver, Mr. Chettapan Phakaporueang, 44, he said that he was driving a freight train from Bua Yai District, Nakhon Ratchasima province, to deliver goods to the Map Ta Phut district, Rayong.

As the train was approaching the incident site near Siam Country Club, Chettapan said he was notified by an officer that there was a woman lying with her legs resting on the railway track. However, due to poor visibility, Chettapan could not see the woman until the train was too close to her, and he couldn’t apply the emergency brake in time. After stopping the train, Chettapan came to inspect the woman and discovered that her legs were bleeding profusely. He then notified the rescue workers.

The injured victim remains under close medical attention. Her current condition was not reported.

Rescue workers believe the case was a tragic accident caused by heavy intoxication and not suicidal, adds TPN media.
