A baht bus in Pattaya failed in a bid to overtake another vehicle before crashing head-on into a motorbike, instantly killing a 19-year-old female rider.
The tragic accident was reported to the Banglamung police at 02:30 AM Monday morning, July 24th, 2023. The Banglamung police coordinated with Sawang Boriboon rescue workers before hurrying to the incident scene along with Pattaya News reporters.
Upon arriving at the entrance of Soi 15/1 on Pattaya-Naklua Road in the Naklua sub-district, Banglamung District, Chonburi province, the police found the victim, Ms. Jeerawan Permsin, only 19-years-old, lying motionless on the road. Despite attempts at resuscitating her, the victim succumbed to her grievous injuries. Steady rain was pouring at the time of the incident.
Fallen close to Jeerawan’s body was her red Honda PCX motorbike. The police investigated the vehicle and found that its front part was badly damaged. They also discovered another involved vehicle, a baht bus with yellow license plates registered in Chonburi. Its driver, 35-year-old Mr. Ava Phakaew, who seemed shocked by the accident, was waiting at the scene to give his statement.
According to his account, while driving from the Dolphin Roundabout towards Naklua Market, Ava tried to overtake a pickup truck ahead of him. Unfortunately, he failed to notice the victim coming from the opposite direction in the adjacent lane before attempting the maneuver. As a result, he collided head-on with the victim, leading to her almost instantaneous death.
The Banglamung police pressed legal charges against the baht bus driver. The details of the charges were not immediately released to the press, however.
