Fake Landlord Scammer Attempts to Collect Rent from Employee at Pattaya Cannabis Shop

Pattaya —

A scammer posing as the landlord attempted to collect rent from an employee at the cannabis shop in Pattaya but was foiled when the shop owner contacted his staff. The thief ran away without getting any money.

Today, on July 21st, Mr. Rattanakorn Chobsalang, a 23-year-old employee at the Sativa cannabis shop located on Pattaya Second Road, revealed to the Thai media a strange incident where a mysterious man entered the shop around 5:30 P.M. on July 19th and attempted to deceive him into handing over 25,730 baht under the pretense of it being for rent.

Rattanakorn described the man as being middle-aged, about 40-50 years old, wearing a long-sleeved plaid shirt, long trousers, and a mask covering his face. The man entered the Sativa shop in the evening of July 19th, saying to Rattanakorn that he came to collect rent.

As if checking, the man inquired to Rattanakorn about the presence of the shop owner. Rattanakorn said he was not at the shop and asked if he had any proof of appointment with the owner. In response, the man cunningly pretended to have a conversation on his phone, describing the supposed rent details with the fake owner, which led Rattanakorn to start preparing the money.

However, at that very moment, the real owner called into the shop, so Rattanakorn asked if any rent was due today. The man then heard that the employee was talking to the real owner, so he hastily fled the shop without getting the money.

Rattanakorn revealed to The Pattaya News that he could not clearly see the face of the man; however, he had already filed a report with a CCTV recording of the incident to the Pattaya police. He warned other employees to stay alert in a situation like this and always check with the owner before paying any strange individuals requesting payment.
