Pattaya —
Pattaya mayor Poramase Ngampiches on Monday July 17th, 2023, visited a dog shelter near the city where 360 stray dogs are being taken care of and given love according to city officials.
The Pattaya Dog Shelter in Khlong Yai, located in the Huay Yai district east of Pattaya, is a joint effort between the city of Pattaya and Tony’s Emergency Animal Rescue and Shelter. The facility currently cares for over 360 stray dogs with 6 diligent and devoted staff.
Managed by the Pattaya Natural Reserve Foundation for Stray Dogs, the animals here generally have good health amidst a favorable environment, said Mayor Poramase. The shelter provides ample space for dogs to run and play, with a team of specialized veterinarians visiting them once a week to check on their well being.

According to the shelter’s policies, a dog that does not bite or display aggressive behavior towards humans will be sterilized and released back into the community, while the shelter will take action against a dog that is aggressive and bites.
At the Pattaya Dog Shelter, stray dogs have a low mortality rate, with some of them living up to 15 years. It is estimated that 300 stray dogs are inhabiting 40 communities around Pattaya, exceeding the shelter’s capacity.

However, Poramase said the city is working towards caring for them, with a focus on sick, aggressive, and elderly dogs.
Those interested in adoption or donation are urged to contact the Pattaya Mayor’s Office or call 080-402-5660.
