A man tried to sneak a gun into a nightclub in Pattaya and accidentally shot his own younger sister in her buttocks, causing her serious injury.
The suspect was only identified as Mr. Jakkrapat and was immediately arrested by police after the incident. He was reported to be the older brother of 21-year-old Ms. Praeploy Phothong, a Thai national.
The incident took place at 04:15 AM on Wednesday, July 12th, at a parking lot at the Dirty Pattaya nightclub, located in Soi Koh Phai within the Nongprue sub-district of Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Ms. Praeploy was reportedly shot by Mr. Jakkrapat in the right buttock, resulting in profuse bleeding, as he tried to sneak a gun into a pub. Ms. Praeploy was rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to the Pattaya police, they were only able to seize a magazine with 10 rounds of ammunition from the suspect, as the gun was taken away by a group of the suspect’s friends before they arrived.
In an interview with the victim’s friend, Ms. Wanarak Weluwanarak, she said the suspect liked to carry a gun around with him. As they were pulling into the parking lot, the suspect heard a car accident nearby, so he pulled out his gun and readied it to take a look at the accident.
However, the gun accidentally discharged and hit Ms. Praeploy’s buttock in the process. Ms. Wanarak then notified the authorities, while the suspect stayed at the scene to help his sister and surrender to the police.
Additionally, the police discovered a substance resembling illicit drugs packaged in a ziplock bag inside the suspect’s vehicle. He is in police custody as of press time, while the police are hunting for the gun.
It was unclear, adds TPN media, why the nightclub was apparently still open when legal closing times are 2:00 A.M. in entertainment zones.
