The unsightly mess of electrical wires above Pattaya Walking Street are finally being dismantled in response to completion of an underground cable installation project.
The underground cable project, which is part of the city’s plan to improve the street’s scenery, has been carried out off and on over the past few years and caused a lot of inconvenience to tourists and residents alike.
Now that the project is successfully completed, the city will move onto the next step, which is to remove unused communication cables and power poles.
According to Pattaya Deputy Mayor Manoch Nongyai, all overhead cables would be gone within the next 8 days while in July, the electricity poles would be removed.
He said the above after visiting Walking Street yesterday, June 12th, with officials from the Provincial Electricity Authority and the National Telecommunications Company.
The deputy mayor, however, asked for understanding if certain areas of the street were temporarily blocked to allow workers to do their job.
He said the whole dismantling project will be fully complete within two months.
