Thailand-
Thailand’s general election will be held on May 14th, the Election Commission has announced.
Our previous story:
Now for the update:
The election date has been announced one day after the Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha dissolved the House of Representatives. On Tuesday (March 21st) the Election Commission (EC) has approved to set May 14th, 2023 for general election day and May 7th, 2023 as for early voting.
For foreign readers one of the biggest effects of this event will be a certain alcohol sales ban, which means bars and nightlife must close, for 24 hours from the evening before the election to the day of when polls close for the actual election day. This is Thai law for elections.
As for early voting, sometimes this is a closure as well and readers will need to stay tuned for official announcements.
