Pattaya —
A young Thai motorcyclist severely injured a pedestrian in a crash last night, February 22nd.
The accident in Pattaya’s Soi Bun Samphan 13 in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, was reported to the Sawang Boriboon rescue services at 9 PM. The rescuers found a red Honda Wave fallen on the road along with its rider who happened to be just a 15-year-old boy.
The Pattaya News notes that the legal age to drive a motorcycle in Thailand is 16-18 depending on the area and restrictions. The boy suffered only very slight injuries.
However, lying in the middle of the road was another Thai national, 49-year-old Ms. Pornthip Kiatkamonchai. The rescuers told The Pattaya News that the woman was hit by the boy driving his motorbike and lost consciousness. She also suffered critical head injuries. The rescuers provided her with first aid before rushing to the nearest hospital.
After reviewing CCTV footage, police disclosed to The Pattaya News that the boy crashed his motorbike into the victim at high speed while she was crossing the road. The impact sent the woman flying into the air, added police.
The woman is currently receiving close medical attention at a hospital.
It is unclear what legal action will be taken or if the boy’s parents will be needed to take responsibility.
