269 Chinese tourists from Xiamen in China have landed at Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport today, January 9th.

The first group of Chinese visitors arrived at the airport at 12:50 PM and were warmly welcomed by three prominent smiling Thai ministers: Anutin Charnvirakul, Minister of Public Health, Saksayam Chidchob, Minister of Transport, and Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports.

Anutin, who told a press conference at the airport that a requirement for proof of Covid vaccination for foreign tourists has been canceled, put flower garlands around tourists’ necks and gave welcome gifts together with other ministers and airport officials.

This group of Chinese tourists traveling on Xiamen Air flight MF833 marks the first Chinese flight of tourists that landed in Thailand after China curbed its stringent travel restrictions on Sunday, January 8th.

China’s borders had mostly been closed for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic and a Covid zero policy.

15 flights from mainland China with 3,464 passengers are scheduled to enter the kingdom today, while the officials anticipate that they will welcome at least 300,000 Chinese visitors throughout the first three months of 2023.
