Sri Racha, Chonburi —

A man was arrested after strangling his wife to death in an apparent fit of jealousy at a rental room in the Sri Racha district.

The incident occurred after sundown on Monday, December 5th, in the Bowin sub-district in Chonburi. Bowin police were contacted by the murder suspect who said he wanted to turn himself in after killing his wife.

Sathien, a Buriram native, reportedly admitted to police during his questioning that he choked his wife in her sleep to death out of jealousy. He said he had been the deceased victim’s husband for 7 years, and he noticed that her behaviors started to change recently.

The suspect was an air-conditioner repairman while his wife was a factory worker in the Bowin industrial estate, according to police. The suspect said he caught his wife talking with her old boyfriend behind his back, which led to many squabbles between her and him around last April.

On the day of the murder, things worsened when the suspect returned home to find that his wife had not come home yet. He then called her to come home and waited until she fell asleep to check her smartphone. The suspect said he snapped after seeing that his wife talked with her alleged secret lover again. In a fit of jealousy, the suspect stated he choked his wife to death before calling his older sister and police to inform them of what he had done.

The victim’s body was transported to Laem Chabang Hospital for an autopsy. The suspect was detained, but it was unclear what legal charges he would face.
