79-year-old grandma tragically murdered by her drug-crazed grandson in Chonburi

Chonburi —

A grandson, who was high on illegal drugs, brutally beat his 79-year-old defenseless grandma to death with a spade and a rusty cleaver in Chonburi, according to a police report.

The heartbreaking incident took place at a house in the Khlong Kio subdistrict of Ban Bueng district, Chonburi, yesterday, October 20th.

Khlong Kio police and rescue workers rushed to the one-storey house to try to stop a violent incident involving a 30-year-old grandson who allegedly beat his grandmother while under the influence of illegal drugs.

Police and rescue workers sadly arrived at the scene too late as the victim, Mrs. Niyom Chaemchamrat, was already deceased. She was found face-down with deep cuts on her left shoulder and bruises on her back.

Khlong Kio police suspected a bloody spade found beside the body and a rusty, blunt cleaver found inside the house were used by the suspect to murder the victim.

Shortly after the body was removed from the scene, the suspect, Mr. Phiphatpong Chamjamrat was arrested. He was, in fact, the victim’s 30-year-old grandson, according to his stepmother whose name was withheld by police.

The suspect was in a frenzy and could not speak properly due to the illegal drugs he took, his stepmother admitted. The suspect was transported to a local police station.

“I tried to stop him,” the stepmother told The Pattaya News, “but he threatened me, so I called the police and rescue workers. His grandmother, however, passed away before they arrived.”

The stepmother added that the suspect was jobless and always asked for money from his grandmother. She also heard them quarreling about this before the murder unfolded. The stepmother urged relevant authorities to take anti-drug operations more seriously.

Khlong Kio police initially charged the suspect with manslaughter. They stated that they would question the suspect after the effects of the drugs had worn off. The exact drugs taken were not identified by law enforcement to the media.
