Cannabis seller reportedly on drugs robs Thai beachgoer in Pattaya

Pattaya —

A cannabis seller was arrested briefly after he allegedly robbed a Thai beachgoer with a sharp blade in Pattaya.

The victim was a Thai adult named Mr. Anukul Srichand, 28. He hurried to report his terrifying experience to Pattaya police at 8 PM yesterday, October 9th, saying he was robbed of his cash worth 1,200 baht on Soi Pattaya 13/4 in the Nongprue subdistrict of Banglamung, Chonburi.

Mr. Anukul told The Pattaya News he went to the beach to relax after sunset, sipping beer and enjoying the scenery. Then, a male stranger, standing around 180 cm tall and having dark skin, approached him with a bottle of Thai rice whiskey and asked to sit with him for a friendly chat.

Rain started to pour down, so Anukul and the stranger left the beach to find cover from the storm on Soi Pattaya 13/4. The victim said he walked to an abandoned building with the suspect to urinate because he began to trust him, but suddenly the suspect pulled out a sharp weapon to threaten him, forcing him to take off his clothes and give money to the suspect.

While begging for his life, Anukul said the suspect, who had just tried to befriend him, was briefly distracted, so he took a chance and ran away as quickly as possible before reporting the incident to Pattaya police.

Then at 11:30 PM on the same day, Pattaya police were able to catch the suspect whose name was revealed by police as Mr. Nintawat Chaemchan, 28. The suspect was reportedly a cannabis seller and was nabbed near the incident scene with 1,200 baht in cash.

He claimed: “I didn’t take his money. He was actually my friend. We knew each other for one day after drinking at the beach. Unfortunately, we had an argument, and I ripped his shirt.”

Nintawat conceded to taking illegal drugs but objected to the robbery allegation. Pattaya police, however, did not believe the suspect, given that he had a long list of similar crimes around the Pattaya area, so the suspect was detained at the Pattaya police station to await further legal proceedings.
