Mueang district, Chonburi —
A man who suffered mental illness reportedly from drugs and was in rehabilitation set himself on fire and suffered 60% burn wounds to his body.
A Thai man only identified as “Eak” (32) soaked himself in oil before lighting himself with a lighter in front of his house in the Ban Puek subdistrict of Mueang district in Chonburi, his younger brother told Khunnatham rescue services.

The eerie incident took place yesterday morning, September 9th, after the man’s father told him to buy some groceries. He then seemed irritated and walked out of the house and came back with a bucket of oil and a lighter before committing the terrifying act, the brother told local Thai media.

The brother said he and his neighbors helped put out the fire with water and called rescue services who arrived after half an hour. The man suffered 60% burn wounds to his body and was rushed to Burapha Hospital by Khunnatham rescue services.

When the brother was asked about a possible motive, he said that his older brother was mentally ill because he used to take drugs and was currently in rehabilitation. However, the man started having hallucinations lately and refused to sleep and was very unpredictable, so this may have driven him to burn himself, the brother said.
The injured man remains at Burapha Hospital as of press time. Police said they would question his father for more information.
