Sri Racha —
A 92-year-old impaired monk was burned to death after a fire gutted a temple in Sri Racha.
Firefighters and Sawang Prateep rescue services rushed to the Rai Kluay temple in the Surasak subdistrict of Sri Racha on Friday September 2nd, after being notified that a massive fire had erupted and was engulfing a monk’s parsonage with an elderly monk trapped inside.
The parsonage was a two-storey, half-timbered building. It had already been covered in a blaze by the time of the firefighters’ arrival. The fire was reportedly too fierce and eventually burned down the entire house before the firefighters could put it out. The impaired 92-year-old monk Phra Siang Achito Thongthammachart was tragically burned to death.
According to the firefighters’ report, the victim’s body was found in the charcoaled parsonage. The victim was immobile due to his age and could not escape the sudden fire by himself.
The cause of the fire was believed to be a short circuit caused by an old wire, Phra Natchaphon Chuangbua Kittiphato, 23, said as he witnessed the accident. “I heard an electric snap, and the fire just broke out and spread,” the monk said.
The deceased victim was transferred to Laem Chabang Hospital as of press time, pending Sri Racha police’s investigation to find the cause of this catastrophic fire.
