Pattaya —

The Pattaya Business and Tourism Association (PBTA) pleaded with City Hall officials to reduce taxes after struggling with severe disruptions due to tourism still being unable to fully recover after more than two years of significant business disruptions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Boonanan Pattanasin, President of the PBTA, recently met with Wuttisak Rueimkitkan, Pattaya Deputy Mayor, on behalf of the business operators in Pattaya to petition for the reduction of taxes and utility bills including,

1. Reduce taxes that the city is administering to 10%

2. Lower the fee for infectious waste collection, which is currently 25 baht per kg, to 11-13 baht, the same as Banglamung Hospital

3. Reduce the fuel tariff rate

Boonanan cited in his paper the struggles of Pattaya business operators affected by Covid-19 since the end of 2019. He said that even though the situation was delightfully improving, many operators were still unable to deal with their severe liquidity issues caused by crippled tourism.

“These tax reductions are imperative. It will help us survive while waiting for the tourism situation to reverse back to normalcy,” Boonanan stated.

Initially, Wuttisak accepted the PBTA’s petition and promised to consult it thoroughly among the city council to come up with a supportive measure.
