Sleepy truck driver crashes in Chonburi, three seriously injured

Chonburi —

A sleepy truck driver crashed and overturned while returning to his hometown, severely injuring three people.

Koh Chan police responded to a road accident on 331 Road inbound to Sattahip in the Tha Bunmi subdistrict on Wednesday, July 20th. Three people including a woman sustained critical injuries.

At the accident scene, a black Mitsubishi Triton was found in an upside down position. Police also found a demolished bronze Honda Wave motorbike that the truck was previously carrying nearby. Three victims including two men and one woman suffered critical injuries and were rushed to a hospital.

According to other drivers who witnessed the incident, the truck suddenly lost control and swayed around before crashing into a large sign pole and flipping over.

Thitiphan Phiwathanon, one of the rescuers, presumed that the driver may have dozed off and crashed. She also said that the three victims were probably heading back to their hometown based on the objects they were transporting.

Koh Chan police initially took pictures of the accident scene as evidence to possibly press legal action against the driver because a sign pole, which was state property, was damaged.
