Bed capacity in Pattaya for Covid patients is no issue, hospitalized and serious patients remain very low, Pattaya deputy mayor says

Pattaya —

The bed capacity in Pattaya for Covid-19 emergency patients is at an unconcerning level while 90% of the new patients for Covid-19 in Pattaya have only mild or asymptomatic reactions, a Pattaya deputy mayor said in response to some prominent doctors and organizations concerned of the “threat” of a new Covid-19 surge.

Pattaya deputy mayor Manoch Nongyai revealed today, July 20th, 2022, regarding the current Covid-19 situation in Pattaya that new Covid-19 cases continued to rise every day, but Pattaya City was not worried and always kept a close eye on the 608 group (elderly people over 60-years-old, people with chronic diseases, pregnant women, and those with a weight of over 90 kg) as they were at highest risk of having severe symptoms.

Regarding emergency patients, Manoch said that the bed capacity of Pattaya and Banglamung hospitals was still at an unconcerning level to receive emergency patients even if a new wave of Covid-19 really hit. As for the patients with mild symptoms, they could opt to take medicine and recover at home if they pleased, according to Manoch.

Additionally, all hospitels (quarantine centers) in Pattaya had been closed because patients could stay home instead, and there were few emergency patients at the moment.

Yet, the deputy mayor emphasized the importance of maintaining one’s health, though he did not specifically state that everyone should resume wearing a mask. Lastly, he urged people to get a third booster dose of a Covid-19 vaccine as 90% of the new Covid-19 patients with a third dose in Pattaya rarely suffered critical symptoms.

This comes as the Public Health Ministry in Bangkok has been concerned over the past few days due to rising cases especially in the capital and even proposed to the governor to cancel upcoming events. The governor, however, denied this request and stated that the number of cases could be handled by the medical system and that continuing to cancel things was not the way forward.

Much of the concern comes from the fact that Thailand just recently ended a long five-day holiday that saw significant travel across the country and new more transmissible sub-variants of Covid-19, notes TPN.
