Nakhon Nayok –
A one-year-old elephant was safely rescued after reportedly falling into a drainage pit at a resort near the Khao Yai National Park of Nakhon Nayok this morning, July 13th.
Park officials and veterinarians arrived at the scene after being alerted of the incident. Upon arrival, the calf was seen in the 2-meters-deep drain well while the wild elephant mother was staying close to her baby, making the rescue more of a struggle.
The vets had to fire 3 rounds of anesthetic syringe shots at the mother elephant before they could get closer to the baby elephant and begin the rescue. However, the mother also plunged into the well due to drowsiness. The officials, therefore, had to lift her up before rescuing the baby.
Then, another group of officials began to drag the baby up from the hole while the vet team rushed to wake up the mother elephant. Both were eventually safe and returned to their natural habitat, as seen in the bottom photo.
The status of the open drain pit was not made immediately clear nor who was responsible for it.
