Thai public raises vital funds for children in need at the star-studded Blue Carpet Show for UNICEF

BANGKOK, 4 July 2022 –

Leading celebrities and companies came together at the Blue Carpet Show for UNICEF, a televised variety show, to mobilize support from the Thai public for children in Thailand and across the world, particularly those most vulnerable and facing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The campaign so far raised 10.9 million baht with supporters becoming a part of UNICEF’s work to deliver aid that creates lasting change for children as well as addressing children’s immediate needs.

Organized for the fourth year and hosted by renowned emcees Ter Ratthanant Janyajirawong and Tuitui Puttachat Pongsuchat, the 120-minute show went live on Channel 7HD on 2 July. It brought together more than 20 leading celebrities, including Friend of UNICEF Min Pechaya Wattanamontri as well as Atom Chanakan Rattanaudom, Pexky Sretunya, Off Jumpol Adulkittiporn, Gun Atthaphan Phunsawat, Trinity, Kem Hussawee Pakrapongpisun and many more actors and actresses from Channel 7HD. They walked the blue carpet and then onstage to perform hit songs, such as Trinity’s “I Don’t Miss You” and Atom Chanakan’s “Good Morning Teacher,” as well as making surprise phone calls to personally thank those donating to UNICEF during the show.

Four short films featuring Friends of UNICEF and celebrities on missions were aired during the show to put a spotlight on the challenges facing children around the world.

“This year, I visited a remote province in Thailand to learn how crucial oxygen concentrators are for the most vulnerable groups who have been affected by COVID-19. UNICEF distributed this very important equipment to hospitals and health centers in many parts of the country that needed it the most,” said Min Pechaya about her mission to Lamphun Province.

In his film, Friend of UNICEF Peck Palitchoke Ayanaputra told the story of how UNICEF Magic Box sets of books and toys helped young children in Bangkok’s Klong Toey community continue their play and learning despite COVID-19 disruption. Kem Hussawee, an actor from Channel 7HD, shared the stories of children with severe acute malnutrition in Malawi, while UNICEF Thailand Goodwill Ambassador Anand Panyarachun explained how UNICEF’s Blue Dot refugee support centers have helped children and families fleeing the war in Ukraine.

UNICEF also recognized H.E. Anand Panyarachun for his role as a Goodwill Ambassador and champion for children’s rights during the show. Throughout 26 years, he has supported UNICEF’s mission with his vast knowledge and strong commitment and has been a driving force in mobilizing funds for UNICEF’s work for children.

Earlier at a press conference on 16 June, UNICEF launched Teddy Blu t-shirts and bracelets as limited-edition merchandise for the Blue Carpet Show. Leading up to the show, celebrities and members of the public also showed off their moves in the #BlueCarpetDance challenge on TikTok to the theme song “Kor Mue Ther Noi,” and fans took part in Blue Carpet Show activities such as the JOOX Live Room with BNK48 and Off-Gun.

The Blue Carpet Show is supported by Channel 7HD, which provided free airtime for the show; Central Group as the Teddy Blu Collection partner, which provided 100 per cent of the profits from merchandise sales to support UNICEF; as well as Platinum-level sponsor Supalai, Silver-level sponsors Bangkok Bank and CoinEx Thailand and corporate partners Siam Cement Group, Central Pattana and Mobile Connect.
