German man allegedly physically assaulted by two men in Banglamung, but dispute arises over who started the fight

Banglamung, Chonburi —

A 57-year-old German man was allegedly physically assaulted by two unidentified men in Banglamung, but an eyewitness claimed that the German man initiated the fight, causing a dispute to arise.

Pol. Col. Kulchat Kulchai, Superintendent of the Pattaya Police Station, responded to a physical assault against a male foreigner at 7:00 A.M. today, June 18th, on Soi Bongkot 16/1 in the Nong Prue subdistrict of Banglamung, Chonburi.

The male victim, Yurk Wendorf, a 57-year-old German national, was found with a facial wound and a blood-stained shirt, according to The Pattaya News reporters. He also reportedly seemed groggy.

The victim told the Pattaya police that he was physically assaulted by two Thai men who punched him until he flopped to the ground and stomped him before fleeing in a sedan.

According to The Pattaya News reporters, however, an eyewitness, Thanakrit Sangthian, a 41-year-old Thai motorcycle taxi rider, told a different story. He said that a black sedan carrying five passengers including the victim pulled over not far away from him. The unidentified male driver of the sedan then paid Thanakrit to take the victim to his accommodation and re-entered his sedan.

However, the victim, Yurk, appeared upset by the driver “pawning him off” and suddenly ran to the driver and yanked on his collar, trying to pull him out of the car, the eyewitness claimed. The two men then got into an argument, and another unidentified male passenger, the eyewitness said, intervened and punched the victim in the face, stomped him, and drove away.

Yurk has reportedly denied the eyewitness report and claims he did nothing wrong and that the assault was unsolicited.

Officer Kulchat told the Pattaya News reporter that he had directed his subordinates to investigate the incident scene and work with tourist police to identify the suspects. He called the incident “a disgrace to Pattaya’s reputation”, according to the Pattaya news reporter.

CCTV nearby will reportedly be reviewed to confirm or deny the conflicting statements made by the parties involved.
