Man captured by pedestrians after trying to steal a gold necklace from a Sri Racha gold shop

Sri Racha, Chonburi —

A 35-year-old man was captured by pedestrians after trying to steal a gold necklace from a gold shop in Sri Racha. Some people reportedly criticized police officers for their sluggish response.

Sri Racha police were notified yesterday, June 16th, about a gold-snatching report at one shopping center in the Sri Racha subdistrict of Sri Racha, Chonburi. The thief reportedly snatched a gold necklace weighing three baht.

The gold shop clerk was still startled after the incident where one man pretended to try on a three-baht-weigh gold necklace and fled the shop, according to reports. However, he was shortly tackled by nearby pedestrians and the mall security guard before the police arrived.

The suspect’s name was identified as “Ae” (real name withheld by police), 35. He reportedly admitted to stealing the necklace to sell it and use the proceeds to gamble online.

According to reports, certain pedestrians, however, were unsatisfied with the Sri Racha police’s reaction time as the police station was only 300 meters away from the mall, plus there was a police booth at the mall’s entrance.

As of now, Sri Racha police were proceeding with legal actions against Ae. They reportedly did not provide reasoning for the pedestrians’ criticisms.
