38-year-old suspect barely escapes public lynching at reenactment after allegedly killing two of his relatives and injuring one with firearm in Chonburi

Ban Bueng district, Chonburi —

A 38-year-old intoxicated man allegedly killed two of his male relatives and seriously injured one, whom he claimed had slapped him in the face before, with a firearm in Chonburi. The suspect reportedly barely escaped the lynching of the victims’ relatives.

Around midnight on May 28th, Ban Bueng police responded to an alleged murder involving three male victims named Niphon, 56, Wichan, 55, and Udon, 50, (last names not provided) at a retail store in the Nong Bon Daeng sub-district, Ban Bueng district, Chonburi.

The first two victims were shot dead at the scene while the third suffered a serious gunshot wound. All three victims including the suspect were reportedly relatives.

The suspect, according to Ban Bueng police, was identified as Supakorn (name and age not provided). He fled on his motorcycle after committing a crime and retreated to his father-in-law’s house for refuge in the Thung Kwang sub-district, Phanat Nikhom district, Chonburi. Police took nearly 4-5 hours to finally subdue and arrest the suspect, who seemed intoxicated according to their reports, and kept pressing a gun muzzle against his head. He was then transferred to the Ban Bueng Police Station.

Supakorn testified, still seemingly intoxicated, that he had only purchased his gun four days ago. With his gun, he went to the retail store where his three relatives were sitting to drink.

His relatives then told him to put his gun away, so he returned home, loaded it, and came back to shoot the three victims whom he claimed had previously slapped him in the face although he did not reveal who did. He also said that he waied (Thai greeting) the victims before shooting them.

Supakorn then went on a re-enactment today, May 30th, but police needed to quickly cancel it because a large crowd of the victims’ relatives gathered and try to assault him. The suspect’s 58-year-old mom Jiew Saeng Ui apologized to the enraged relatives and claimed that her son was mentally ill and had not received a proper treatment for years.
Initially, Supakorn was charged with attempted murder, carrying a firearm in public without reasonable cause, and shooting a firearm in public.
