30 rare amulets stolen from abbot’s room at Wat Khao Nam Sub in Sri Racha, one reportedly worth 2 million baht

Sri Racha, Chonburi –

A thief reportedly sneaked into an abbot’s room in Wat Khao Nam Sub and stole 30 rare, valuable Buddhist amulets including one reportedly worth two million baht.

Today, April 23rd, around 8:00 A.M. Pol Lt. Col. Paratthakorn Sribunruang from the Laem Chabang Police Station received a notification of an alleged thievery at Wat Khao Nam Sub temple, Thung Sukla sub-district, Sri Racha, Chonburi. Lamai Sittho, a 61-year-old abbot, who notified the police, said that the thief sneaked into his room at the back of the temple while he went alms gathering outside this morning. The thief reportedly stole all 30 rare and famous amulets kept in a cabinet. The monk also claimed that among the 30 stolen amulets was one worth around two million baht which he had already agreed to sell to a buyer. According to police, there were no traces of tampering on the windows, but they found some on the door to the room in which the amulets were kept. They also said that the abbot’s room was isolated within the temple with the back facing Nam Sub Mountain, making it too easy for the thief to sneak in.

Initially, police had forensic officers collect fingerprints and will interrogate workers at a nearby construction site to track down the culprit. Laem Chabang police believe the suspect knew about the amulet cabinet and was familiar with the premises.
