Thailand announces 21,808 daily Covid-19 infections with 128 additional deaths today

Thailand reported a total of 21,808 daily Covid-19 infections with 128 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced today, April 22nd.

The fatalities were 79 men, and 49 women with the highest rate in Bangkok with 12. 126 of them were Thai nationals and one of each was a Swedish and Myanmar national. The age range was between 2 and 102 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including cancer (8), kidney disease (33), obesity (6), stroke (18), and heart disease (17). 11 of the fatalities were bedridden patients.

Of the new cases, 21,561 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 111 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 45 were from prisons, and the remaining 91 were imported cases.

A number of 190,780 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 1,985 patients are in critical condition including 913 on ventilators. This is roughly 1.04 percent of cases that are critical while 45.9 percent of that are critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 3,562, followed by Khon Kaen with 923, Chonburi with 882, Samut Prakan with 718, Si Saket with 595, and Samut Sakhon with 542.

A total number of 147,767 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 22,292 people had received their first shots, 50,892 people had received their second shots, and 74,583 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 80.6% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 73.1% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 36.2% have had a third booster shot.

As of today, 19,826 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 4,128,038 cases with 3,909,738 recoveries and a total of 27,520 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
