Thailand announces 16,891 daily Covid-19 infections with 129 additional deaths today

Thailand reported a total of 16,891 daily Covid-19 infections with 129 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced today, April 19th.

The fatalities were 72 men, and 57 women with the highest rate in Bangkok with 27. 127 of them were Thai nationals and one of each was Chinese and Myanmar national. The age range was between 10 and 98 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including cancer (14), kidney disease (28), obesity (14), stroke (18), and heart disease (29). 14 of the fatalities were bedridden patients.

Of the new cases, 16,769 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 18 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 19 were from prisons, and the remaining 85 were imported cases.

A number of 197,349 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 2,104 patients are in critical condition including 940 on ventilators. This is roughly 1.06 percent of cases that are critical while 44.67 percent of that are critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 3,282, followed by Chonburi with 650, Khon Kaen with 594, Samut Prakan with 527, Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 514, and Samut Sakhon with 469.

A total number of 17,642 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 3,337 people had received their first shots, 2,733 people had received their second shots, and 11,572 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 80.5% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 72.9% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 36.0% have had a third booster shot.

As of today, 24,927 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 4,063,844 cases with 3,839,360 recoveries and a total of 27,135 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
