Young driver dies after pickup truck crash in Chonburi during Songkran

Chonburi –

A 25-year-old driver has been pronounced dead at the scene after a pickup truck crash in the Mueang Chonburi district during Songkran.

Emergency responders were notified of the accident on Sukhumvit Road in the Klong Tamru sub-district yesterday afternoon, April 15th, 2022. They arrived at the scene to find the damaged pickup truck embedded into a pillar on the side of the road. The driver, Mr. Tiraphon Yangsri, 25, who was unconscious, was later pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no direct witnesses to the accident. Mueang Chonburi Police are checking CCTV footage nearby to find the cause of the accident.

Songkran, the Thai New Year festival, is traditionally one of the most dangerous weeks of the year in terms of accidents in Thailand due to the number of people traveling. The festival nationally lasts from the 13th to the 15th but in some areas, like Chonburi, lasts longer until the 20th.
