The Coastal Erosion Development Commission vice president gives a short update on the progress of the Jomtien Beach expansion

Jomtien, Pattaya-

Earlier this week, Monday the 21st of March 2022, the vice president of The Coastal Erosion Development Commission went on an operation to examine the progress of the dune reinforcement project at Jomtien Beach.

This project, which we have reported on extensively before, is set to expand the beach in several sections along the length of Jomtien Beach Road. You can read our previous coverage of the project by clicking here.

Mr. Prasertpong Sornnuwat, the vice president, along with many involved authorities attended a meeting to receive a conclusive brief of the dune reinforcement project at Jomtien beach from the project operator.

The incentive of this meeting, according to the vice president, was to evaluate if the project would be suitable for extra funding and how to get the citizens engaged in this project as much as possible. And once the conclusion was met, it would be directed to another commission to conduct similar dune reinforcements at other areas in Pattaya in the future.

The main purpose of this update was to confirm that the budget was available to expedite the expansion of the beach and move forward plans to complete Phase 2, the middle portion of the sand, by “High Season” of 2022 and the expected more widespread return of tourists.

TPN media notes that the project has been overall fairly well-received for the completed portion on the South end of Jomtien Beach near popular seafood restaurants like “Bpoo Bpen”. In some cases, as seen here, eager restaurant operators came up with innovative ways to use the beach space but there are concerns of possible encroachment on public land from some officials.
