Chonburi –

A fire destroyed a rundown metal shack in Mueang Chonburi yesterday afternoon (February 28th), with the owner claiming that despite the appearance of the structure she was storing hundreds of thousands of baht of valuables there.

Firefighters were notified of the fire at 4:00 P.M. at a ramshackle house made of zinc, sheet, and metal near several townhouses in the Na Pa sub-district. Firefighters arrived at the scene with four fire engines in total along with reporters from TPN media.

The fire was heavily ablaze and it took more than half an hour to control the fire, with firefighters concerned about the blaze spreading to the nearby townhouses, which they managed to prevent. The metal structure, however, was completely destroyed including a motorbike. No injuries were reported.

Ms. Mintra Pongpirat told TPN reporters, “I live at a townhouse nearby. Inside the ramshackle house, however, we were keeping many valuables worth hundreds of thousands of baht like necklaces, electronics, and other precious items. We stored them here as we didn’t think anyone would ever suspect valuables being stored in such a rundown structure.”

The Mueang Chonburi Forensic Police are conducting an investigation to find the cause of the fire which was not released as of press time. Police from Mueang Chonburi are also reviewing the claims from Ms. Mintra of precious valuables being destroyed in the blaze. It was not immediately clear if the items were insured.
