Pattaya police start renewed crack down on illegal motorbike racing

Pattaya –

More than 100 motorbike racers from the Central and Northeast parts of Thailand reportedly gathered in the Pattaya area this past week, leading to Pattaya Police seizing 20 illegal motorbikes and initiating a crackdown.

A team from the Pattaya City Police led by Colonel Kunlachart Kunlachai cracked down on motorbike racers near Pattaya Beach yesterday afternoon (February 12th).

Colonel Kunlachart told TPN media, “We were notified by anonymous concerned citizens that motorbike racers from the Central and Northeastern parts of Thailand were holding a gathering/event near Pattaya beach this week and took proactive measures to stop it.”

“Acting on the tip, we did indeed find that more than 100 motorbike racers were gathered in the Pattaya Beach area. 20 motorbike drivers were unable to present proper documentation for their vehicles and had many illegal customizations and modifications that violate the law. As a result, twenty motorbikes were seized.” Col. Kunlachart added.

“We are continuing to crack down on motorbike racing and illegally customized motorbikes in the Pattaya area. Officers have been instructed to pull over individuals suspected of having illegally modified bikes and if this is found to be the case the bike will be seized and can only be returned when all illegal modifications are removed at the owners expense.” Colonel Kunlachart concluded.

TPN media notes that complaints around motorbike racing, especially loud exhausts late at night, have been regular concerns of residents e-mailing the media.
