Mueang Chonburi –

One person has died while another has sustained serious injuries after an ex-employee argued with their former employer over a thousand baht allegedly owed in the Mueang Chonburi district.

The Mueang Chonburi Police were notified of the incident Thursday afternoon (January 6th) at a private residential home in the Samnak Bok sub-district.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the body of Ms. Waraphon Puusansri from Khon Kaen. A fatal stab wound was found on her left chest.

Nearby, first responders found Mr. Wittaya Masoongnern, 41, from Sa Kaeo, who is Ms. Waraphon’s husband. He had sustained injuries from slash wounds to his wrist, chest, and shoulder. He was rushed to a local hospital.

The suspect, Mr. Boonma Toethong, 40, from Mahasarakam, who was also heavily intoxicated according to police, was arrested at the scene. He was carrying a kitchen knife.

Mr. Boonma told law enforcement officers, “Mr. Wittaya was my former employer. He owes me 1,000 baht for work performed. I met him and asked him for my money but he refused. He and his wife, who was holding an axe, attacked me first. I had to fight back in self defense.”

However, the Mueang Chonburi Police shed doubt on Boonma’s statement and said Mr. Boonma is facing two charges of attempted homicide and murder. Boonma remains in custody as of this weekend and police continue to investigate the incident. They plan to interview Wittaya when he recovers from his injuries.
