Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDOM) today (January 3rd) reported a total of 307 accidents, with 34 deaths and 311 injuries, on the fifth day (January 2nd) of the ‘New Year’s Seven Days of Danger’ road accidents campaign.
Accidents were mostly caused by excessive speeding (34.85), followed by drunk driving (29.32 percent). About 81.01 percent of the accidents involved motorcycles.
41.69 percent of road accidents occurred most on national highways, followed by 32.57 percent in provincial subdistricts and local villages. Most accidents occurred between 6:01 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at 21.82 percent.
The highest number of accidents was in Trang (12 times) and Kanchanaburi had the highest number of injuries (15 people). Two provinces with the highest fatalities were Bangkok and Udon Thani (3 people).
In a total of five days (December 29th- January 2nd) of the Seven Days of Danger, there has been a total of 2,221 road accidents, 2,198 injuries, and 263 deaths.
