Thailand discovered a total of 2,437 daily Covid-19 infections with 18 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, December 27th.
The fatalities were 8 men and 10 women with the most numbers recorded in Chiang Mai with 3. All of them were Thai nationals. The age range was between 49 and 76 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (9), diabetes (4), hyperlipidemia (0), obesity (2), and kidney disease (3). One of the fatalities was a bedridden patient.
Of the new cases, 2,307 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 20 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 18 were from prisons, and the remaining 92 were imported cases.
A number of 34,436 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 752 patients are in critical condition including 179 on ventilators. This is roughly 2.18 percent of cases that are critical while 23.8 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 427, followed by Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 150, Chonburi with 138, Khon Kaen with 96, Samut Prakan with 88, and Chiang Mai with 57.
A total number of 120,612 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 15,791 people had received their first shots, 43,599 people had received their second shots, and 61,222 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 70.8% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 63.1% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 8.6% have had a third booster shot.
A total of 514 Omicron cases were found in 14 provinces in Thailand so far, the CCSA reports. Two-thirds were people who traveled from abroad. The rest was local transmission with the biggest cluster reported at a local restaurant in Kalasin. 127 infections from the cluster were confirmed with the new variant, three of them was found at Surin’s elephant fair. The other 97 cases are pending confirmation.
As of today, 3,845 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,212,407 cases with 2,156,373 recoveries and a total of 21,598 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
