Chonburi –

A male driver has sustained serious injuries after he crashed his sedan into a power pole in Mueang Chonburi during curfew time this weekend.

Emergency responders were notified of the accident at 1:30 A.M. Friday morning (October 8th) on Suk Prayoon 2 Road in the Nong Gakha sub-district in Pan Thong.

The first response teams arrived at the scene to find the sedan driver, Mr. Wirat Tammahorn, age not given, stuck inside his vehicle suffering from serious injuries.

Rescue workers used a jaw of life to free Wirat from his sedan within five minutes. He was unconscious and reportedly bleeding heavily and was rushed to a local hospital for urgent medical assistance.

A witness named only as Mr. Book who lives nearby and saw the accident take place from his porch told the associated Thai press, “Mr. Wirat was driving at very high speed. He lost control before crashing into the power pole and overturned. I tried to help Wirat out from his car but failed so I called the police for help.”

Mueang Chonburi police investigating the accident told the associated local press they believe speed was the main factor behind the accident, which took place during a current mandatory curfew of 10:00 P.M. to 4:00 A.M. in place to discourage gatherings that could spread the Covid-19 virus, according to authorities. It was not immediately known if Wirat had a permit to be out during curfew. Police also stated they were planning to take a blood alcohol test of Mr. Wirat at the hospital, although the results of this test were not given to the press.

Wirat remained in serious condition at a local medical facility as of press time, according to first response teams familiar with his condition.
