Bars have been closed in Pattaya since April 10th of this year due to concerns around Covid-19, notes TPN media. However, some bars still have staff living on the premises, especially in open-air beer bars that still have property on the premises like the venue in question.

“The thief stole my mobile phone and a tablet which cost in total about 20,000 baht. Both devices were lying next to me. I have already filed a report to the Pattaya City Police. I was sound asleep and did not know what had happened until I reviewed the CCTV from the bar.” Prapatsorn stated.

CCTV footage from the beer bar appears to show the suspected thief who was wearing a blue raincoat taking several devices from a person lying under a pink blanket on a mat in the bar at 4:02 A.M. on August 27th, just as heavy rain began to fall in the Pattaya area.

Ms. Prapatsorn added “Yesterday (August 29th) afternoon a thief also stole a mobile phone of a Chinese national. The Chinese ex-pat put the mobile phone under their motorbike seat which was parked in front of the beer bar while they ran errands nearby. We know this as they asked to review our CCTV footage. The Chinese person has also reported this incident to the Pattaya police.”

TPN media notes that Pattaya is also under curfew from 9:00 P.M. to 4:00 A.M. nightly and this crime took place only two minutes after curfew was lifted. Pattaya police are reportedly investigating the incident. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, most businesses are mandated closed in Pattaya which has led to some resorting to criminal actions due to lack of funds, according to Pattaya Police.
