The Narcotics Suppression Bureau today, March 23rd, announced a major drug bust of eight million methamphetamine pills and the arrest of seven alleged involved drug smugglers from the Northern provinces of Thailand.
A group of seven Thai nationals were captured by officers from the Narcotics Police Division 3 in the Pathum Thani area, following an investigation revealing that a large number of drugs would be smuggled from Chiang Rai province to the central and metropolitan areas of Thailand.
The police then followed a suspicious vehicle and eventually revealed themselves as it stopped at a warehouse in Pathum Thani for alleged transferring of drugs.
The suspects allegedly confessed during the initial interrogation that they were hired for about 10,000-20,000 baht per person to transfer methamphetamine pills from Northern provinces to Ayutthaya province before storing them in a warehouse in Pathum Thani. The drugs would be distributed in Bangkok and its vicinity as well as in Southern provinces.
According to the police, most of the suspects had previously been arrested for similar charges of drug smuggling. The police believed that all of them were involved with a huge drug network in the North and were expanding the investigation. Meanwhile, all of the suspects were detained at the department for further interrogation.
