Truck driver dies after container falls from crane onto his vehicle at shipping yard in Laem Chabang

A truck driver has been pronounced dead at the scene after a container fell from a crane while it was being moved onto his trailer truck in Si Racha, landing on the cab of the vehicle.

The Laem Chabang Police was notified of the accident after midnight yesterday (March 3rd) at a port in the Thung Sukhala sub-district.

Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a displaced container on a trailer truck’s cab. The body of the driver, Mr. Athikan Kamdang, 32, was found inside the cab, having been killed nearly instantly according to the rescue workers. His body was removed from the cab using a variety of special rescue tools.

Laem Chabang police are questioning the crane operator to determine exactly how the container fell onto the cab before proceeding to decide upon pressing any charges. Laem Chabang police initially stated they believe the incident was accidental but will need more time to investigate.

The crane operator was not named by police and was “not available” to speak to the press at the time of the incident.
