Fruit vendor caught with gun and 35 bullets at Pattaya Covid – 19 checkpoint

A fruit vendor was caught with a gun and 35 bullets at a normal Covid -19 checkpoint in South Pattaya this morning, March 3rd, according to Pattaya Police.

A team of police led by the Chonburi Provincial Police Deputy Commander Colonel Maykavit Praditpon and the Pattaya City Police arrested Mr. Pan Rakdee, 42. Seized from him was a handgun with 35 bullets.

Colonel Maykavit told The Pattaya News, “A normal Covid – 19 checkpoint is on Sukhumvit Road. The suspect, who was driving a pickup truck, was stopped by Pattaya police at the checkpoint and displayed nervous and suspicious behaviot. We found the gun and bullets inside a bag in the vehicle after further inspection.”

The suspect reportedly told police, “I am a fruit vendor in Pattaya. The gun and bullets belong to me. I carry the gun to protect myself, not to use to attack anyone.”

The suspect did not elaborate on why he felt the need to protect himself or why he did not have a legal permit for the weapon.

Colonel Maykavit told The Pattaya News, “The suspect is facing charges of possessing a firearm without a permit and carrying a gun in public without a permit.”
