Chonburi Immigration Police yesterday, February 25th, announced four major arrests relating to illegal migrant workers regarding smuggling and services in the province.
In the first case, Immigration Division 3 had captured a group of allegedly scammed brokers who were reportedly claiming to provide a visa extension service for migrant workers for 1,000 baht per copy. The group would become unreachable as soon as they received a reasonable amount of money.
The initial loss was more than a hundred thousand baht, according to the Immigration police chief Sompong Chingduong, and an expanded investigation was ongoing.
In the second case, 12 Cambodian nationals and two Thai locals were arrested for reportedly smuggling migrant workers to a neighboring country. The number of smuggled migrants had not been revealed by the authorities.
In the third case, Chonburi Immigration police, in cooperation with Chachoengsao Immigration police, had arrested two Thai nationals after allegedly being involved in transporting illegal migrant workers from Cambodia. Another 12 Cambodian nationals who were reportedly assisting the smugglers were later captured and were taken to the Immigration police bureau for questioning.
In the last case, Samut Prakan Immigration police had utilized an intelligent surveillance vehicle that uses facial scan technology and arrested a group of alleged smuggled migrant workers in the province. The initial investigation revealed that the group was discreetly operating illegal transport in the Phra Pradaeng area before the arrest was conducted according to the arrest warrant issued by the Samut Prakan Provincial Court.
