Bangkok –

Thailand discovered 179 domestic infections among 189 new Covid-19 Coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, CCSA spokesperson Taweesin Visanuyothin reported this morning, February 8th.

56 out of 179 infections were found in Samut Sakhon with 50, Samut Songkram with 4, and Nonthaburi with 2 during a proactive approach in major factories and local communities, primarily in migrant workers dormitories. Most of them are migrant workers and asymptomatic. All of the patients are now at provincial state quarantine and field hospitals under the supervision of public health authorities.

The other 123 cases are hospital cases that were discovered in Samut Sakhon with 109, Bangkok with 9, Phetchaburi with 3, and Samut Songkram with 2. All of them are now isolated at local hospitals for treatment. Some sources are describing these as walk-ins, but this catagory importantly also includes contact tracing, people in field hospitals and quarantine who later develop symptoms, etc.

Most of the domestic cases in Bangkok are confirmed to be Thai officers from Chulalongkorn University.

As of today, 956 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 23,746 cases with 18,366 recoveries and a total of 79 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
