A total of 109 Thai and foreign party-goers yesterday, January 29th, faced charges of one-month imprisonment and a 4,000 baht fine after violating the Emergency Decree by allegedly participating in a birthday party at a restaurant in Pha Ngan island, Surat Thani, last Wednesday, January 27.
About 110 guests, 89 foreigners, and 20 Thai nationals, along with a restaurant owner and a bartender were reportedly caught at a mountain-top restaurant last Wednesday. They were, according to Surat Thani police, seen dancing and drinking without performing social distancing, mask-wearing, and other strict health measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus.

As of yesterday, the Surat Thani provincial court had ordered a prosecution against all of the arrested customers for violating Section 9 of the Emergency Decree to prevent the spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus by participating in mass gatherings of more than five people. They are facing one-month imprisonment and a fine of 4,000 baht. The imprisonment will reportedly be suspended.
Meanwhile, the restaurant owner and the bartender are facing penalties of up to two-year imprisonment and a 10,000-baht fine for violating the Emergency Decree by participating in mass gatherings of more than five people, and for violating the Surat Thani emergency order by opening a restaurant and providing/drinking alcoholic beverages at the restaurant.
