Thailand’s State Railway service suspends all sightseeing trains, cuts down on other routes due to Covid-19 precautions

Thailand-

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) yesterday afternoon announced that they have suspended all sightseeing trains and are cutting down on other routes to discourage travel during a cluster of Covid-19 infections in Thailand.

The announcement was made by Niruj Maneepun, the Governor of SRT.

He stated that twelve different trains that operate sightseeing and tourism routes such as ones going to the Ban Plu Ta Luang station near Pattaya and the Sai Yok waterfall to be suspended until further notice. This is to discourage travel and because some provinces have strict entry and exit requirements especially those classified as “high risk.”

The trains in question usually operate from the Hua Lamphong station. They have been suspended from today onwards, according to Niruj’s announcement on the SRT social media accounts yesterday.

In addition over thirty regular service trains will be suspended until further notice, primarily ones going to the North and North-east which the majority have been largely spared the current Covid-19 crisis. This is, according to Niruj, to stop the potential spread of Covid-19 and encourage people to stay where they are until the situation is resolved.

For more information interested users can call the SRT hotline at 1690, full refunds will be offered to passengers who had previously booked.
