National –
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha yesterday, January 5th, ordered the establishment of a gambling investigation committee to eradicate illegal gambling operations and their influential figures in Thailand.
The strict order is in response to the second cluster of Covid-19 Coronavirus found at a gambling den in Rayong in late December. The Prime Minister admitted that there are many gambling dens being operated nationwide and that stringent operations must be performed as soon as possible.
Prayut stated: “We can’t deny that most people are still joining gambling, which is illegal in Thailand. This is a matter of the officers who have to cooperate and solve this problem. Wherever is the source of infectious disease, they must be eliminated as quickly as possible.”
The investigation committee will consist of officials from the Security Department, Department of Special Investigation, the Anti-Money Laundering Office, and the Narcotics Control Board.
“The proceedings will include prosecutions, examinations for immediate offenses, seizure examinations as well as tracking down those influential figures who might be involved in the illegal activities. We insist that we will use legal measures to arrest those who involved and destroy all gambling dens found,” the Prime Minister concluded.
