Video: Thepprasit market in Pattaya eerily quiet on a Saturday night after Covid-19 concerns rise

Pattaya, Thailand-

The following video shows a walkthrough of Thepprasit market in Pattaya/Jomtien on Saturday, January 2nd, 2021.

This walk shows an idea of the current situation in Pattaya as clusters of Covid-19 infections, primarily related to illegal gambling dens, have been discovered in the area in the past several weeks causing business restrictions, closures and other measures to take place. Although the market is not under these measures and is allowed to open, concerns of Covid-19 are high with many local residents who have, in turn, avoided the market.

This walkthrough was at 9:00 P.M., generally a very busy time on a Saturday night just after New Year’s in a “holiday” period. One vendor who spoke with the Pattaya News stated that she struggled to make even a hundred baht and that foot traffic was nearly “barren.” In “normal times” she would easily make over a thousand baht a night, she stated.
