Another illegal returnee from Chiang Mai who was working at same entertainment venue as previously-announced infected returnees from Myanmar tests positive for Covid-19

Chiang Mai –

Another Thai national from Chiang Mai, who was reportedly working as a DJ in the same entertainment venue as previously-announced infected locals from the Tachiliek district of Myanmar, tested positive for Covid-19 coronavirus, Chiang Mai public health officials confirmed this evening, December 4.

The 32-year-old male patient visited Nakornping hospital to seek a Covid-19 test yesterday morning, December 3rd, after an official announcement of six returnees in Northern provinces testing positive on Wednesday. His result showed him being positively infected with the Covid-19 Coronavirus and he is being isolated at the hospital since then.

Dr. Chatuchai Maneerat, public health chief of Chiang Mai, told the press that only five people were found to be in contact with the new patient and were categorized in a low-to-very-low risk group. A sample from the risk group will be collected for Covid-19 detection on December 7th.

According to the patient’s statement, he illegally sneaked into the Chiang Rai border via a natural route on November 30. He was reportedly having suspicious symptoms of a stuffy nose and a loss of smell at the time. He stayed at a hotel in the Mae Sai district for a night and in the Muaeng Chiang Rai district for another night before traveling to Chiang Mai with a private motorcycle on December 2nd.

The patient reportedly stayed alone all the time he was traveling from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai. He arrived at a hotel in Chiang Mai at around 8:00 PM. on December 2nd and went out to buy food at a 7-eleven convenience store and at a nearby market for about 10 minutes to buy dinner to bring back to his hotel room. The man was reportedly wearing a mask all the time when leaving the room.

As of yesterday, he decided to ask for the Covid-19 test at Nakornping hospital. He is now being isolated at the hospital in a negative pressure room to prevent contamination under the close supervision of provincial medical officers.

Those who attended Singha Park on November 29 from 7:30 P.M. – 11:00 P.M. and passengers who traveled on flight DD8717 (Nok Air) on November 28 at 1:40 PM and flight SL533 (Thai Lion Air) on November 29 at 10:40 AM are strongly advised to contact the public health office in their province to receive isolation advice and make an appointment to have Covid-19 tests, Dr. Chatuchai stated.

Meanwhile, Chiang Mai public health officials warned the public to stay calm and to follow health regulations under the New Normal policy very strictly to prevent the spread of Covid-19 coronavirus.
