Bangkok –
Attapon Buapat, one of the prominent speakers of the pro-democracy demonstrations in Northeastern Thailand, has been arrested at a hotel in Bangkok as of this evening, following an arrest warrant from Udon Thani court.
It is believed that Attapon had arrived in Bangkok today from Khon Kaen province to participate in a major pro-democracy protest at the Siam Commercial Bank headquarters in the capital this afternoon before he was approached and captured by police authorities while he was resting at a hotel.
The pro-democracy activist is being taken and detained at Phaya Thai police station for a daily arrest report and will be transferred to the Udon Thani police station. Charges and more details of the arrest warrant have not yet been revealed to any media agencies.
Meanwhile, more protesters are massing in the SCB headquarters to join the pro-democracy demonstration as of this evening. The situation reportedly remains peaceful, featuring speeches from prominent speakers on the main stage. No intervention and counteraction of law enforcement authorities are reported as of now with any other prominent protest leaders at the protest.
