Bangkok-

Only a few days after the Minister of Public Health said the proposal to lower quarantine from fourteen days to ten days was canceled due to concern from prominent Thai citizens, it is back on…for now.

Anutin Charnvirakul, the Minister of Public Health, made the announcement at a seminar yesterday. He stated that the proposal was being brought back as many prominent doctors with the Department of Disease Control supported the measure and that Thailand was in better shape to handle any potential cases.

Anutin also stressed that only very low risk countries with low to no cases of Covid-19 like Taiwan, New Zealand, Vietnam or China would be eligible for the lower quarantine period in an attempt to lessen concerns from the Thai public. Countries at higher risk such as the US or UK would still need to do fourteen days of quarantine.

The Pattaya News notes that this is only a proposal and will once again go before the main Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) committee and Thai Cabinet for final approval, which is not guaranteed. Some doctors with the CCSA have hinted they don’t support the plan but others have.
