TIMELINE: COVID – 19 local transmission confirmed for Indian national on Phi Phi Island in Krabi

Krabi, Thailand-

The Indian man, 37, lives on Phi Phi Island in Krabi and is a new local transmission of the COVID – 19 virus in Thailand that was confirmed today (November 7th).

The Krabi Public Heath Office reports that the Indian man works at a restaurant and lives on Phi Phi Island.

On Wednesday (November 4th) he checked his health at a private hospital in Krabi while processing work permit related information. He went back to his home on Phi Phi Island. He later tested positive for the Covid19 Coronavirus. He is completely asymptomatic.

Nineteen people who had close contact with the Indian man have tested negative for COVID – 19 according to the Krabi Public Health Office. However, they are being quarantined out of precaution. This includes several friends and relatives who live with the man full time.

The man has taken two subsequent Covid-19 tests. Both were negative, however doctors are now sending his results to a blood lab and holding him for quarantine out of precaution.

The Krabi Public Health Office stated the man mostly stayed at home and work and did not have a widespread travel history and the public should remain calm. It is being investigated if his initial test could have been a false positive.
