A 44 year old man who was dressed as a soldier in the Royal Thai Army was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in Bo Thong over the weekend.
The man, Mr. Sombat Boonphakdee, 44, was crossing a road at the Khlong Mai Sai Intersection, Bo Thong-Nong Samet Road around 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2020.
Mr. Sombat had reportedly parked his Honda Wave motorbike on the side of the road and was crossing to the other side on foot to reach a noodle cart when he was struck by a six wheeler truck. He suffered multiple serious injuries including to the left side of his skull and was taken unconscious to the Bo Thong hospital for medical assistance.
Mr. Nikorn Sisom, 49 years old, the driver of the six wheel truck, stated that Mr. Sombat ran out in front of his vehicle without warning and he did not have time to stop. Mr. Nikorn stated he attempted to brake but still struck Sombat.
A relative of Mr. Sombat, who declined to be named, stated to the press upon arrival to the scene of the accident that Mr. Sombat was not actually a soldier but “enjoyed dressing up like one” and regularly ate at the noodle cart at this intersection. As of press time, Mr. Sombat remains in the Bo Thong hospital.
