Members of National Conservative Party stage a protest demanding for U.S military troops to leave Thailand

Prachuap Khiri Khan –

A group called “The National Conservative Party” staged a protest in Prachuap Khiri Khan (the Hua Hin area) today, August 24, to condemn the presence of the U.S. troops in Thailand and accuse them of being a potential trigger to an upcoming unstable political event.

The conservative group is led by Wannapha Worr, the central committee member of the National Conservative Party. She has demanded to forward a statement to the provincial governor and read the statement in public, regarding that the situation in Thailand is now in danger as it is becoming an object of a capitalist country that aims to create chaotic disaster, in her opinion.

According to the letter, the group – which acts according to the monarchy, religion, and people – claimed that the worst national danger is imminent as Thailand has been currently misled and provoked for a potential state of war.

The letter continues by claiming that the presence of American soldiers in the country implies that Thailand is coming to an unusual state. It will also lead to dissatisfaction with powerful countries in East Asia, such as China, as they would potentially misunderstand that Thailand agrees to welcome Westerners whom they were in serious conflict with, stated the National Conservative Party today.

The group, therefore, urges the authorities to adhere to neutrality principles and asked the American troops to immediately leave Thailand. Thai people should also gather and show off their national strength to pressure the American military.

Roughly a hundred U.S. troops had entered Thailand for a joint military exercise since August 4 and would stay in the country until the end of August. It was not confirmed by Thai Government officials where the exercise was taking place or what exactly the exercise was. The Pattaya News notes that Thailand has had a long standing positive relationship with the American military and conducts multiple exercises yearly, including Cobra Gold in the Pattaya area.  The soldiers also all performed a proper two week quarantine and were tested for Covid-19 multiple times after some members of the Thai public raised concerns. All the soldiers tested negative for the virus and followed all rules and regulations set by the Ministry of Public Health, said the Covid-19 Situation Administration earlier this month.

The letter had been sent to official representatives in multiple provinces during the past weeks in order to alert the government about the situation. The National Conservative Party claimed to act according to their objections and would form a protest in Bangkok if the government did not heed their voices.
