Thailand-
At a community event this morning the Thailand Minister of Tourism and Sports reassured what he said were nervous Thai nationals by saying all foreigners, regardless of VIP status, would be quarantined for fourteen days in the foreseeable future.
The comments come as Thailand prepares to enter phase six of loosening rules and restrictions in early August. The next phase will allow migrant workers, film crews and Thai elite visa holders to return to the country amongst some others and previously approved groups.
The comments come as Vietnam has announced a new cluster of locally spread cases and the outbreak continues across the world. Thailand has not had a single confirmed and recorded locally spread case in over sixty days.
The Tourism Minister’s comments also seemed to suggest that the proposed travel bubble idea was likely shelved for the near future as the virus situation remained dire around the world. With many previously clear countries like Vietnam and Hong Kong having flare ups, Thailand has only tightened their borders and rules. Inside the country, however, nearly all restrictions and rules have been lifted.
Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakan, Minister of Tourism and Sports, made the comments during an inspection of the progress of the Network for Community Enterprises and Farmers’ Community Tourism in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The minister also presided over a ceremony promoting roadside fruit markets in Cha Uat district. He visited booths that serve agricultural products and demonstrate various aspects of produce processing.
